Where to begin? Tosin Olusoga died 5 years ago today at the age of 19 but already has a space dedicated to his memory at the University of East Anglia (UEA)’s School of Economics, where he also has a prize named after him, The Tosin Olusoga Memorial Prize, open to African students and awarded for excellent performance in their final assessment.

A lot has been written already about Tosin HERE and so I will keep this simple.

He participated in Politics as early as 17 by joining the Labour Party in the UK, getting the attention of David Prescott, a Labour member and son of the Deputy Prime Minister of the UK. A First Class student of Economics and a champion of Economic Prosperity and Social Justice, he was keen about making an impact in Nigeria and the UK.

His memorial was attended by everyone that he impacted from all across the world, his friends, family, lecturers and everyone spoke highly of his personable traits and impeccable character. I felt truly honored to have been invited to give a speech myself even though I didn’t get the chance to meet him while he was alive.

The lesson for me is that if we are to have lived at all, we should leave no stone unturned to live a life of impact. Our legacy depends on it. As Tosin would say, make it simple but significant.
